Fellowship of Compassion - A Community for All. Serving All.

Fellowship of Compassion is an active member of the Tahoe Truckee Homeless Action Coalition,  and a committed partner in advocating for and serving our unhoused neighbors.  We are honored to lead the Community Fundraising Campaign for the One-Year Navigation Center Pilot,  scheduled to open February 2026.

This Navigation Center will be the first year-round, low-barrier shelter and service hub in the Truckee-North Tahoe region--something our Regional Homelessness Action Plan identifies as a priority.

The Funding Gap We Must Close Together

The projected first-year cost to operate the navigation Center is $1.385 million, covering:

  • Operating expenses
  • Facility lease
  • Tenant improvements
  • Furniture
  • Start-up costs.

The Town of Truckee,  Tahoe Forest Hospital District, Nevada County  made a total commitment of $1.080 million toward this regional homelessness effort, Placer County is being asked for $75,000, leaving a community giving gap of $230,000.

We are calling on the broader community  to help complete the circle of funding and ensure the Navigation Center opens on time-so meals, safety, shelter, and supportive services are available as early as this winter.

Your Gift Goes Three times as Far

The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation has offered a $200,000 - 2 for 1 match,  on every gift.

Your donation-whether $25 or $2,500-will have three times the impact, providing --Three times as many meals & Three times as much hope!

Let's unlock this full match together!

Project Overview:

The One-Year Navigation Center Pilot will offer:

  • Safe, year-round shelter in a region where options have historically been temporary and weather-dependent
  • 16 year-round beds plus day services for those not staying overnight
  • Low-barrier access, meaning people are welcomed rather than turned away
  • A coordinated hub for services, including:
    • Case management
    • Housing Navigation
    • Healthcare access
    • Behavioral health support
    • Employment support

This project is a top priority in the 2025 Tahoe Truckee Regional Homeless Action Plan and builds upon the work of North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services (NTTHS) AMI housing, and partners, since 2015.

Why This Matters:

Your support will help:

  • Provides immediate safety year-round - not just winter
  • Reduce the number of people living unsheltered in our region.
  • Decrease strain on emergency services, law enforcement, and healthcare systems.
  • Create real pathways into stability and housing.
  • Strengthen the health, safety, and compassion of the entire community.

And importantly-this project has broad community support.

Who It Will Serve

The Navigation Center will support individuals experiencing homelessness in the Truckee-North Tahoe region, including seniors, workers, long-time locals, and those facing medical, financial, or housing crisis.

Location & Operations

The Navigation Center will be located at:  12315 Deerfield Drive, in Truckee (Accessible to transit, food, medical care, and essential services)

Operations will be led by Volunteers of America (VOA), an experienced provider running more than 40 shelter and housing programs across Northern California and Nevada.

This Is Our Moment as a Community

Your generosity today helps build a community where no one is left out in the cold and where every neighbor has the chance to receive care, stability, and a path forward.

Together, we can open the doors of hope in 2026
