Year One proved the Truckee Navigation Center works.

Help Fellowship of Compassion keep the doors open.

In February 2026, the North Tahoe-Truckee region opened its first year-round, low-barrier homeless shelter, Day Center and service hub.

You helped make that happen. Now we’re asking you to help it keep going.

What your generosity built: the first seven months

  • 131 neighbors served
  • 64 people given a bed, with beds full more than 90% of the nights
  • 4,501 hot meals served
  • 265 showers and 139 loads of laundry at the Day Center, open every weekday since opening
  • 2 people moved into permanent housing, with 11 more on a pathway to housing within 30 days
  • 10 people diverted from homelessness before they ever needed a bed

Behind every number is a neighbor: a worker, a senior, a longtime local, someone in a medical or financial crisis. They now have a welcoming place to get support year-round.

Year Two: stronger, and ready for winter

In September, the Tahoe Truckee Homeless Action Coalition voted unanimously to recommend a second year at the Deerfield Drive location. Year Two builds on what’s working:

  • 25 beds during 4 winter months up from 16, so more people are safe during the coldest months
  • 16 year-round beds the rest of the year
  • Day services for people not staying overnight: meals, showers, laundry, a warm place to be, and case management
  • A coordinated hub for housing navigation, healthcare access, behavioral health support, and employment support

Operations continue under Volunteers of America, which runs more than 40 shelter and housing programs across Northern California and Nevada.

Everyone is doing their part. Now it’s our turn.

The Year Two budget is $1,317,087, and the funding is shared across the region:

  • Town of Truckee: $235,000
  • Nevada County: $235,000
  • Tahoe Forest Hospital District: $235,000
  • Placer County: $75,000
  • Volunteers of America: $50,000
  • Year One reserves: $252,087
  • Community giving: $235,000

Fellowship of Compassion is proud to lead the community campaign again this year. The final piece comes from all of us.

What your gift does

  • $7 provides a hot meal
  • $25 helps cover a day of meals, a shower, and clean clothes
  • $100 helps keep a bed open on a freezing winter night
  • $1,000+ helps keep case management going, which moves people from crisis into housing

Every gift counts, whether it’s $25 or $2,500.

Why it matters

  • Safety year-round, not just in winter
  • Fewer people living unsheltered in our region
  • Less strain on emergency rooms, law enforcement, and crisis services
  • Real pathways into stability and housing
  • A healthier, safer, more compassionate community for everyone

This is our moment, again

Year One showed what’s possible when a whole region works together. Year Two is about showing it can last. Your gift today keeps the doors open, the beds full, and the path home within reach for our neighbors.

Please give today. Together, we keep the doors of hope open in 2027.
