Join Us in Making the Truckee River the Vibrant Heart of Our Community

Truckee River Legacy Foundation sponsors and partners on restoration & revitalization projects on and around the Truckee River. We are focused on the main stem of the Truckee River from Tahoe City to the Nevada State line, with a focus on the Town of Truckee.

Our Goals:

  • Restore and protect the river.
  • Revitalize the river corridor for community benefit and river-friendly uses.
  • Provide managed and sustainable access to the river with trails, parks, access points, and view points.

Help Support Our Efforts with Capacity Building Funds

This season, we are raising $10,000 in capacity-building funds for the organization to pursue projects, including a Floodplain Restoration and Managed Access Plan in partnership with the Town of Truckee and other local organizations.

We are pursuing grants and other sources of funding to make this plan a reality!   We hope you will consider supporting us this giving season.

About Us

Since 1997, the Truckee River Legacy Foundation (TRLF) has led an effort to protect, restore, and provide access to the Truckee River for future generations. Founded by Truckee Rotary, TRLF began with a bold vision—to make the Truckee River the heart of the community once again. TRFL’s first major achievement was leading the design and construction of the first phase of the Truckee River Legacy Trail, a project that has since expanded in partnership with the Town of Truckee through multiple phases and now connects neighborhoods, parks, and natural areas along the river.

Over the past 25 years, TRLF has evolved into a key sponsor and partner for restoration and revitalization projects along the main stem of the Truckee River, from Tahoe City to the Nevada state line, with a focus on the Town of Truckee. Restoration highlights include funding and support for the Donner Creek Confluence Restoration Project, which reestablished floodplain function, improved riparian habitat, and provided sustainable public river access in partnership with the Truckee River Watershed Council. TRLF also raised funds —$150,000—to support the Truckee Donner Land Trust acquisition of Truckee Springs, permanently preserving 26 acres of riverfront open space critical for wildlife habitat and public enjoyment.

Through these and other initiatives, TRLF continues to champion a balanced vision of ecological restoration, community access, and long-term river stewardship. TRLF has been revitalized in recent years, with new board members and new drive to give back to the river and the community.
