Sierra Senior Services

Sierra Senior Services is the Meals on Wheels program for Truckee/North Lake Tahoe. We provide home-delivered meals, community dining and social connection to seniors in our community.  

Sierra Senior Services/Meals on Wheels  serves at-risk individuals 60 years or older by providing home-delivered meals from caring and dedicated volunteers Tuesday through Friday with an extra meal provided for Mondays, too.  We are one of the few Meals on Wheels programs in the country that does not have a waiting list! To make this possible, we need your help. Your contributions ensure that we can continue helping home-bound, hungry seniors.  Most importantly, your contribution helps us meet the growing need in our community. Sierra Senior Services/Meals on Wheels delivered over 42,000 meals  in 2021 and the number keeps growing! There are many reasons to support our program:

 * It’s because of Aunt Margaret that I contribute to Sierra Senior Services/Meals on Wheels. She was the family cheerleader and always had a kind word whenever I was down. She truly benefitted from the hot meal she received every day. Even though she has been gone several years now, there are still many “Aunt Margarets” that need our help so I give what I can and think of Aunt Margaret when I donate.

 * The Tahoe area is not an easy place for a senior to live yet many long-term residents like Dad can stay – with just a little help. Sierra Senior Services/Meals on Wheels provides that helping hand and I’m convinced the great food and new friendships with the drivers have made Dad less threatened by the aging process.

 * I support Meals on Wheels because of the connection it creates between the participant and the delivery driver. The seniors think they are benefiting from our interactions but it’s me, the driver, who is uplifted through every conversation. I’m glad I can give my financial support as well as my time to this organization.
