SOS Outreach changes young lives, building character and developing leadership through mentoring outdoors.

No matter what social, societal, or economic barriers exist—SOS Outreach believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. It starts with skiing or snowboarding, because it’s on the mountain that kids unearth the courage to step outside of their comfort zones, develop new strengths within themselves and cultivate lifelong skills. Through our multi-year curriculum, we empower kids to discover their true potential; kids learn to relate well to others, understand and manage feelings, make positive decisions, and develop social responsibility.

“What I love about SOS is there are always people, peers or mentors, willing to help you learn, on and off the mountain. I never had a bad day with SOS. People may be shy but they are always willing to talk to you. Connecting with people through skiing is totally different than connecting with people randomly. I’ve always been able to talk to my mentors about things going on outside of the program.”

• 200+ kids and teenagers (3rd-12th grade) annually from Incline Village to Truckee to Tahoma
• 13 youth agency and school partners
• 4 mountains: Northstar, Palisades, Diamond Peak, and Mt. Rose
• 330 community service hours performed annually
• 16 junior mentors
• 7 alumni engaged as staff or volunteers
• 5 career development participants
