SUPPORT OUR GIVING BOX PROGRAM
Give the gift of local, fresh produce to those in need!

TAHOE FOOD HUB is a 501(c)-3, non-profit organization based in Truckee, CA. We were founded in 2013 to be a hub for local, sustainably-grown food.

Mission and Vision:
Our mission is to provide a food system that supports regenerative and sustainable farming practices by increasing access to local food for North Lake Tahoe. By addressing local food access challenges at a systems level, we create a hub for local food. A local food system benefits diversified, family farms looking fair market opportunities while increasing access to local food for our mountain community Through our farm network, we connect our community with where their food comes. And the programs we offer educate our community on the important role that a local food system has on our community, economy and environment.

Featured Program:

During this season of giving, we are asking for donations to support our GIVING BOX PROGRAM. A Giving Box provides a box of sustainably-grown fruits and vegetables from local farms to families facing food insecurity in North Lake Tahoe.

The goal of the Giving Box Program is simple: pay farmers a fair market price for their crops and provide fresh sustainably-sourced, local produce to families in need to provide relief and nutritional education. Our Giving Boxes mirror a CSA style (Community Supported Agriculture) box, showcasing what is in season and sustainably-grown.

The program started in the Fall of 2019 as an affordable way for the people to donate and provide a local family a free, box of farm, fresh produce. Over 15,000 Giving Boxes have been distributed since March 2020. On average 90 boxes are distributed every week and at its peak during the pandemic, 180 boxes were being distributed.

Each box provides 3-4 meals according to USDA standards. We partner with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Calvary Chapel and Tahoe Truckee Unified School District’s Food Pantry program to reach families throughout North Lake Tahoe who are facing food insecurity.

As our Giving Box program evolves, we are focusing our efforts on addressing the needs of local indigenous populations including the Washoe tribe. Food sovereignty is an important factor is addressing food security. Food Sovereignty work ensures people’s rights to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through sustainable and regenerative farming practices. These efforts start with supporting stewards of the land and understanding the cultural needs of indigenous communities.  By increasing access to locally-sourced and nutrient-dense produce we can provide consistent and convenient access to food that encourages healthy eating habits where access to fresh food is restricted. Through education, we are building healthy eating habits for future generations that curbs diet related illness all the while supporting local farms.

To keep the program running and to keep our community fed, the Tahoe Food Hub is asking for businesses and individuals to donate to this essential service. Learn more about our Giving Box program by visiting: www.tahoefoodhub.org.
