Hello friends!

I have been involved with The Truckee Roundhouse since its inception back in 2014, before it even had a name. The dream was inspired by the Maker Space, The Generator,  down in Reno. We wanted to build a place where the community can come together to inspire one another, create beautiful art, problem solve, and celebrate our unique mountain community.

I became a board member in the summer of 2021, and am proud to call The Roundhouse my passion project. I love to help create a place for other's, to see their creativity and joy.

-----------------------------------Expansion---------------------------

The Truckee Roundhouse is bursting with creativity—and it’s time to grow! We have outgrown our current walls, with full classes, 50+ people on the ceramics waitlist, and more makers ready to learn than ever before. In 2026, we’re growing from 4,680 sq. ft. to nearly 7,000 sq. ft. This new space will double ceramics capacity, create a dedicated classroom, and make room for new offerings like jewelry making and stained glass.

------------------------------About the Space----------------------------

In our 4,600-square-foot hangar located at Truckee Tahoe Airport, we offer five fully functioning shops - Wood, Metal, Textiles, Ceramics, and Technology - with a robust complement of high-quality tools, including cutting-edge CNC Laser Cutters, Plasma Cutters, and 3D printers.

We have more than 300 members, ranging in age from 8 to 82. These are retiree guitar makers or furniture builders, entrepreneurs using the space to develop innovative prototypes, families working together on group projects, or fine artists making gallery pieces —there is no limit to the type of users the Maker Space attracts.

Engagement in Truckee Roundhouse enrichment activities provides a pathway to authentic connection to reduce loneliness. Classes also connect people in their community to those who might not otherwise meet; people of different ages, abilities, backgrounds, and professions.

-----------------------------Mental Health--------------------------------

Research has shown that art enrichment, regardless of the medium you use, can bolster mood, improve self-confidence, and reduce stress overall.

Research studies have also shown that those suffering from PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Insomnia and any level of chronic pain have achieved a reduction in symptoms by incorporating creative activities into their lives.

We continue to be inspired by the ways our community comes together in creative play — to heal a lonely heart, to awaken a new passion or hobby, the ways love is expressed through personalized and handmade gifts, the intermix of generations to teach and learn new skills, partnerships formed to build and encourage new business endeavors or the friendships formed through the shared love of making something with one’s own hands.
