Maiya's 2022 Truckee Roundhouse Fundraiser

Hi friends!

I served on the board of the Truckee Roundhouse Makerspace for 3 years, and wrapped up last year due to family and work obligations.  Although I'm not on the board anymore, the Makerspace is still near and dear to my heart. I love what this organization brings to me personally, and to our community.  This space is one of my beloved homes in Truckee - it provides a creative forum for a wide range of makers to explore and play together, in addition to providing rich programming for students and underserved members of our community.  One of the many things I love about the Roundhouse is that it's a space in which newbies and skilled craftspeople are all welcome and encouraged to collaborate and create.  I've spent many hours here on the laser, printing a range of graphics onto wood, glass, cork, leather, and more, and enjoyed afternoons in the textiles room getting back into sewing.  Recently Terner and I hung out and crafted this disco palace together. You never know what you might be inspired to get up to, especially with the collective creative energy

The Roundhouse has kept their community and programming strong through the ups and downs of recent years, and they've kept the maker spirit alive against all odds.  Anything you can contribute to keep this place thriving for our current and future makers is wholeheartedly appreciated!

Youth and Community Enrichment Programs

We provide high quality tools and instruction so youth and community groups can immediately begin to learn and create projects in a safe and engaging environment.  Professionals and experienced users mentor the students, who celebrate the joy of making something with their own hands as they learn project design and teamwork. The making process helps develop problem-solving skills, self-esteem and resilience.  As they exercise creativity to build custom projects, they also apply principals of math and science to real life situations.

We are very proud of our Youth and Community Enrichment Programs that offer affordable programming to educational partners, which to date include: Creekside Charter School, Sierra Expeditionary Learning School (SELS), Sierra High, Creekside Charter School, Tahoe Expeditionary Academy (TEA), Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Sierra Watershed Education Partnership (SWEP).  Our programs remain affordable for our educational partners thanks to funding from individuals, businesses and foundations.

Scholarships 

We offer need-based scholarships and subsidized memberships. As a nonprofit, we  must raise the funds to offer scholarships or discounted rates because our costs are real, and your donations helps us do this.

Affordable Membership Rates

We strive to be an inclusive, accessible resource for all members in our community. We understand the cost of living is high in our area and seek private and grant funding to keep our monthly membership rates affordable for all.
