As the newest member of the Truckee Roundhouse team, I’ve had the chance to see this makerspace from a fresh perspective. Stepping into a hybrid role supporting our shops, facilities, and ongoing construction project has given me a close-up view of just how much care, effort, and collaboration goes into keeping this community resource thriving.

Having worked in makerspaces in the Bay Area before moving to Truckee, I came in with a sense of what a makerspace can be, but the Roundhouse stands apart. What happens here isn’t just about tools or technology, it’s about people showing up for each other, teaching and learning side by side, and building a creative culture that feels genuinely special. There’s a kind of magic in how this community supports one another, whether it’s sharing skills, solving problems, or just encouraging someone to try something new.

Being part of our expansion project has only reinforced that. The new 1,100 square feet of pure making space and future loft space will give more makers a place to learn, experiment, and grow. It will also open the door to entirely new mediums and opportunities, as well as and visiting artists who can bring fresh energy and knowledge to our region.

The Truckee Roundhouse exists to nurture creativity in all its forms. With five fully equipped shops: Wood, Metal, Textiles, Ceramics, and Technology, we provide accessible tools, programs, and mentorship to youth and adults across the Truckee-Tahoe community. Every day, I get to witness how this space helps people unlock new skills, find confidence, connect with others, and discover the joy of making something with their own minds and hands. Your support helps keep that momentum going. As we work to reach our $165,000 year-end goal, donations directly fuel the expansion, improve safety and resources, and ensure that the Roundhouse remains an accessible, inspiring place for everyone who walks through our doors.
